No one likes the idea of dealing with a failing sewer pipe. Whether the issue is a leak or a partial collapse of a pipe section, visions of renting a backhoe and digging up the pipe do nothing to make the day better.
Fortunately, there is technology on hand that eliminates the need to do all that digging and deal with the issues that it creates. This method is known as trenchless sewer repair. Here are several of the benefits that the homeowner will enjoy by using this approach.
The Hardwood Floors Stay in Place
What happens when the problem with the sewer line happens to run under the concrete slab and hardwood flooring? The flooring has to be ripped up and the concrete pulverized in order to get to the pipe. Along with creating a mess, there is also the matter of having the floor put back in place later.
Using a method known as pipelining, it is possible to take care of leaks without having to rip up anything. This approach to trenchless sewer repair involves creating one small hole and using it to insert a balloon containing an epoxy mixture that cures in a matter of hours. By expanding the balloon to match the dimensions of the pipe, the product will harden and effectively become a pipe within a pipe. After the balloon is withdrawn, it is easy enough to seal the small hole and know that the leak is no longer a problem.
No Tampering with the Landscape
Maybe the sewer pipe does not run under the living room, but it does run underneath the front lawn and out to the street. Conventional methods call for digging up the line, something that means all those carefully tended flowerbeds and lush grass have to be moved. The ensuing mess will take months to clean up.
With trenchless repairs, there is no need to dig up anything. Even if the pipe cannot be saved with a pipelining approach, there is still a strategy called pipe bursting. This will call for two holes rather than one, but it does make it possible to break up the old pipe section and remove the pieces as the new pipe is threaded into place using the second hole. The result is that the begonias get to stay where they are and the yard will not look like a war zone.
The Safety Factor
Sewer repairs do involve some degree of risk. From the possibility of injury to the chance for infection, it is best to do everything possible to prevent any type of harm. The great thing about using a trenchless method is that many of the risks are eliminated. Given the safety of these strategies, it would be a waste of time and effort to use any other approach.
Long Life Expectancy
Using a trenchless repair strategy also sets the stage for not having to make any repairs for a long time. Part of this has to do with the materials used for the job. They resist damage from plant roots, one of the more frequent causes of pipe failure. The resin used as part of the process is also less subject to corrosion. That means it is less likely to weaken and fail.
A Cost-Effective Solution
More traditional repair methods cost a great deal of money. By comparison, trenchless repairs are much more affordable. Homeowners who must work within a limited budget to make the repairs will appreciate the savings along with the quality of the results.
